Police Blotter: Mausoleum Broken Into; Money from Offering Boxes Stolen

Police also report Monday burglary at auto mechanic shop

A white male broke into a mausoleum Friday to steal cash from offering boxes, walking off with $15 cash pried out of the donation boxes, police said.

Toms River Police Chief Michael Mastronardy said the suspect is a thin, white male, wearing a red hoodie sweatshirt and dark pants, sneakers and jacket.

At about 4:30 p.m. Friday, the suspect broke into the mausoleum at Saint Mary’s Cemetery on Massachusetts Avenue and Honey Locust Drive, using a pry tool to steal donations left in offering boxes in the building, said the police chief in an email. The suspect walked away with about $15, and was wearing a black book bag.

A break-in and robbery at a downtown auto mechanic shop was reported Monday, with car parts valued at several thousand dollars reported stolen.

Toms River Police are investigating a theft and burglary from Krean’s Auto Body, Water Street, that occurred between 4 and 5 a.m. Monday morning, Mastronardy said. 

The suspects entered the yard behind the main garage by cutting a hole in the fence and then entered a car trailer by cutting two padlocks, Mastronardy said.   

The items stolen include four Ford Mustang tire rims valued at $700, a Tial Sport waste gate valued at $1000, and a $1500 stainless steel engine header.  Investigating are Officers Robert O’Neill, William Hutton and Detective Mark Bajada.
