Police Confiscate Synthetic Pot at Gas Station

Search warrant issued for Exxon at Fischer and Bay

A special unit of the Toms River Police is targeting synthetic marijuana, and uncovered the sale of the drug at a local gas service station Tuesday afternoon.

Chief Michael Mastronardy said synthetic marijuana products were allegedly being sold by a staffer and owner of the Exxon station at Fischer Boulevard and Bay Avenue.

The Toms River Police Special Enforcement Team executed a search warrant at the Exxon Station after a month long investigation, headed by Officer Patrick Jacques, said the police chief.

"This is the third warrant executed by the special enforcement team of local businesses that sell these products," Mastronardy said.

Toms River Police seized "numerous" packages of these products and cash from the business this afternoon, he said.

Employee Saleem Khan, 53, of Coolidge Avenue was arrested and charged with  distribution of synthetic marijuana. The owner, Arsalan Ahmed, 40, of Edison has been charged with possession of and distribution of synthetic marijuana. Bail has not been set at this time, Mastronardy said.

Use of syntethic marijuana is a growing problem, Mastronardy said.

Police have investigated numerous incidents were these products have been involved with people becoming ill as well as a recent motor vehicle accident were an individual was under the influence of synthetic marijuana purchased in Toms River, said the police chief. These ingredients are purchased for about $10 and the finished drug sells for $20 for a packet.

Anyone with information can contact Sergeant Shaun O’Keefe at the Special Enforcement Team at 732-349-0150 ext 1272.

@Trgirl: I'm no cop (doesn't pay enough) Do I respect Law Enforcement? Sure Do I fracture the occasional law? Of course, Everyone does now and then whether they mean to or not. Do I know a lot about the narcotics underworld of our beloved township? You bet your fanny I do! I can honestly tell you their are many dealers out in TR that have been in business for over 10 years without any policing problems at all, I could give the TRPD enough info to keep them busy year round but since I'm no snitch that won't happen. These gas stations are imho worst then your avg pot dealer, They are peddling wares that are hazardous to your health and they need to be shut down Exxon for some reason seem to be the worst with this, Syn pot is crap and kids should be smarter not to buy this crap but they do for reasons I'm not sure of it's not like pot is going out of style in TR there is plenty around and I'm sure it's even easier to get as a student, But kids are kids they are going to do what they want it's always been like that. Yeah I'm pro marijuana not trying to hide that, Nothing wrong with responsible marijuana consumption but everything is wrong with Synthetic Toxic crap like this!
Martin January 12, 2012 at 02:53 PM
At the monthly Neighborhood Watch meeting with the PD, they told us in advance about the synthetic pot sales being investigated there, and sure enough arrests were made shortly thereafter. They had "a clue" after all.
Martin January 12, 2012 at 02:56 PM
Wouldn't you want a neighbor, even one who dislikes you, to report a burglar in your backyard? That's what a Neighborhood Watch is all about. The "golden rule" means a neighbor is looking out for your best interest. Unfortunately you put out bad karma. Be safe, anyway.
Tina January 12, 2012 at 03:01 PM
i agree, this crap needs to be taken off the streets and fast.
Martin January 12, 2012 at 03:20 PM
Nah -- There are already too many cranky guys sitting in front of computers in their underwear, ranting about immigrants and their (American) neighbors.
Martin January 12, 2012 at 03:23 PM
"since I'm no snitch" you allow kids to keep buying hazardous crap and smashing into trees and innocent drivers. Why are you protecting those low-lifes? You're a fine upstanding citizen in your own mind only.
muse January 12, 2012 at 03:27 PM
hey hey... as a matter of point, most small time 'dealers' who get caught are in no trouble whatsoever.. and so what if they are, many more to take their place.. its a vicious circle
Maggie January 12, 2012 at 03:39 PM
Samatha, I know all these things first hand about how he treats the employees. He, the owner is NOT a nice guy. Do you know him? Well I do and everything I have stated is true. He is a snake.
Randal Graves January 12, 2012 at 03:41 PM
@Martin: I don't think my 2 year old frequents Exxon yet but I'll ask later and he hasn't smashed in to any trees or innocent drivers yet today but the day is young.
Randal Graves January 12, 2012 at 04:43 PM
And what low-lifes am I protecting? From my comments you can see I'm clearly against this Synthetic Pot, I'm against gas stations that sell paraphernalia they should stick to Gas, Cigs and Lottery. I don't allow kids to buy anything they choose to buy this stuff, Kids don't listen to adults 99% of the time and they do stuff you tell them not to just to be defiant, Sooner or later they learn but that's on them no where does it say in my life handbook that I have to park a lawn chair outside of Exxon and say hey don't buy that, It's not my problem, I don't get paid to do that nor was it in my job description, That is the sole responsibility of the parents of these kids. And yeah I don't snitch because Snitches get stitches.
Randal Graves January 12, 2012 at 04:53 PM
Marty I don't sit here in my underwear get those dirty thoughts out of your head dude, Definitely don't care about immigrants that isn't my problem and so what if I dislike my "american" neighbors if you lived next to them I doubt you would be in love with them, Unless ofc they sit i their underwear on the computer, Just Sayin'!
trgirl January 12, 2012 at 06:06 PM
Well, Randal, "I'm no snitch" sounds like dialog from an old TV police drama! Are you a bad excuse for a citizen, an anachronism, or do you think this is "West Side Story!" Are you irresponsible or afraid?

UFeedMe January 12, 2012 at 08:51 PM
#1 That gas station is always that busy because people are buying blunts and dutchmaster cigars constantly in there. #2 None of these charges will stick because the versions of spice they sell here are technically legal (do not contain any of the chemicals that were banned last year). #3 "Spice" only exists because of our governments archaic and draconian drug policy which ruins people's lives over smoking a joint in the privacy of their own home. Anyone with half a brain reading this, ask yourself: Would this stuff even exist if marijuana was legalized? When was the last time you heard about injury or hospitalization from smoking marijuana?
UFeedMe January 12, 2012 at 09:01 PM
Wow. I can't believe it. There is a reasonable person on this website!

If you want to take the Libertarian view on the issue, OK...I respect that. But for the love of God stop pretending pot is totally harmless! http://seabrookhouse.org/2011/10/marijuana-influenced-drivers-are-twice-as-likely-to-get-into-an-accident/

Apparently its said that he has terrorist ties. Looks like he's in more trouble then just selling pot!
