Police Investigating Armed Robbery of Route 70 Exxon Station

K-9 units tracked suspect to an undisclosed location, cops say

Police are continuing their investigation into the armed robbery of the Exxon station at 199 Route 70, near the intersection with Whitesville Road.

The robbery occurred at 1:15 a.m. Saturday, said Toms River Police Detective Louis Santora.

At that time, he said, an unknown assailant entered the store portion of the station brandishing a handgun and demanded cash from the clerk.

"The clerk complied and the assailant left without further incident," said Santora.

The armed robber, described as a white male, approximately six feet tall wearing a black ball cap with a white front panel that contained a dark colored logo, was last seen exiting the store and heading west on foot.

The man had on a dark colored long sleeve shirt with white lettering on the front, dark colored pants and dark colored footwear. A dark colored bandana covered his face, said Santora.

The initial officers on scene set up a perimeter and called in the department's K-9 unit, which included Officer Kyle Martucci and his partner, Cyrus, and Officer Buhowski and his partner Gunnar, said Santora. The dogs tracked to an undisclosed location, though no arrests have been made.

Anyone with information on the robbery is being asked to contact Santora at 732-349-0150, ext. 1276.
