Police Investigating Church Road Crash

Police also report a recent car theft and assault

Police are investigating a two car crash that caused a Jeep to overturn on Church Road Wednesday morning.

Marissa Bartles, 26, of Manchester was travelling westbound on Church Road in a 2001 Jeep at 9:30 a.m. when she reported an unknown vehicle struck her in the rear, forcing her into the eastbound lane, said Toms River Chief of Police Michael Mastronardy.

The Jeep driven by Bartles then struck a 2008 Jeep driven by Harold Isaacson, a 76-year-old Toms River resident, according to Mastronardy.

"Bartles' vehicle then overturned and went into a wooded area" near Silverton Road, the chief said.

Neither driver requested medical attention at the scene of the incident. Officer Terry Warren is investigating the crash, according to Mastronardy.

A 15-year-old Pleasant Plains male was charged after police said that he stole a car from Kremer's Auto Repair on Cox Crow Road earlier this week.

The 2007 Nissan, which was stolen on Monday, was recovered by Toms River police on Mercedes Bend Tuesday evening, Mastronardy said.

Because he is a minor, the teen's identity was not revealed by police. An investigation by Officer Michael Foy and Detectives Thomas Dimichele and Brian Lomer led to the charge against the teen, the chief said.

Police are investigating a Tuesday night assault on Oliver Street.

A 43-year-old man was in front of his home when a silver Lexus drove by at a "high rate of speed" towards Lakehurst Road, so the man threw a plastic bottle at the car, Mastronardy said.

Two men from inside the vehicle then exited and assaulted the man who threw the bottle, the chief said.

A witness followed the vehicle, which was last seen travelling northbound on Oak Ridge Parkway. The first character of the license plate began with a B, according to Mastronardy.

The victim was transported to Community Medical Center with a head injury. Mastronardy said that anyone with information should contact police at 732-349-0150.
