Police Investigating Hit and Run

Crash occurred at a Route 9 intersection on Tuesday afternoon

Toms River police are investigating a Tuesday hit and run crash at the intersection of Cox Cro Road and Route 9. 

Zbigniew Skora, 62, was driving a 2002 Honda when he allegedly struck a traffic signal and tractor trailer stopped on eastbound Cox Cro Road at the Route 9 traffic light at 4:30 p.m., said Chief of Police Michael Mastronardy. 

"Mr. Skora then fled westbound on Cox Cro Road," Mastronardy said. "A witness gave a Pennsylvania plate that police dispatchers were able to trace through department records to a home on Camino Verde."

Skora faces "numerous" motor vehicle offenses following the incident and Officer Charles Grainger is investigating, the chief said. 

The driver of the the tractor trailer, 54-year-old Robert Coccia of Lacey, was not injured, according to Mastronardy.
