Police Looking for Person Who Stole Kiddie Ride From Kmart

Batmobile ride taken, police say

Last week it was a fake dog from the Old Navy store in the Ocean County Mall. This week it's a Batmobile ride from the front entrance to the Route 37 Kmart store.

A thief got away with another unusual item in Toms River this week – the novelty children's ride that had been in front of the store for years, police said.

A service manager of Gateway Rides and Sales came to service the machine on Tuesday, only to discover that it was stolen from in front of the store, Chief Michael Mastronardy said.

Officer Witold Paduch is investigating the reported theft, Mastronardy said.

While the the coin-operated ride might be an unusual item to steal, its value isn't exactly chump change. The ride is worth about $5,000, the chief said.
