Police are searching for a man wearing a "Restore the Shore" sweatshirt who allegedly stole cigarettes from a Walgreens and caused $1,000 worth of damage on his way out early Tuesday morning.

After grabbing a carton of Newport cigarettes valued at $78 from a Silverton Walgreens employee, an unidentified man raced to leave the store around 1 a.m. Tuesday. But as the suspect fled, he caused damage to the building, said Chief of Police Michael Mastronardy.

"In the process, the suspect ran into the front glass door causing damage estimated at $1,000," the chief said.
