Police: Toms River Man Hit Ex-Girlfriend With Trophy, Rake

19-year-old also dragged his victim and attempted to punch a jogger who intervened, was later found hiding in closet

A Toms River man is accused of assaulting his 19-year-old ex-girlfriend after she went to his house to retrieve some personal items.

Rozel Foster, 20, of Breckinridge Place, was being lodged in the Ocean County Jail after his arrest which occurred at about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Police were called to Foster's residence after they say he became violent, eventually chasing his ex-girlfriend to her 44-year-old mother's car before he struck her with a metal gym bar. Then, according to Police Chief Michael Mastronardy, Foster dragged the Jackson woman 15 feet and struck her with a trophy and rake, breaking both weapons by striking her body.

Eventually, Mastronardy said, a 52-year-old woman who was out jogging witnessed the incident and began to yell at Foster, who turned his anger toward her and "took a swing" at her, though he missed. The jogger then fled on foot.

Foster was later arrested in his residence after police found him hiding in a bedroom closet under some clothes, said Mastronardy.

Foster has been charged with aggravated assault, resisting arrest and criminal mischief and is being held on $100,000 cash bail. He was also held on outstanding warrants worth $500 from Pemberton and $7,500 from Jackson.

His victim was treated for multiple injuries at Kimball Medical Center, Mastronardy said.
