Possible Drug Overdose Deaths Under Investigation

A 29-year-old male and 21-year-old female may have died from drug use, police said

Police are investigating two recent deaths in Toms River as possible drug overdoses, according to Chief of Police Michael Mastronardy.

The deaths of a 29-year-old man found Friday, April 12, and a 21-year-old female discovered Monday, April 15, remain under investigation and police ask that anyone with information come forward, Mastronardy said.

Neither individual was identified by police, though Mastronardy said the 29-year-old man was found not breathing by family members in his Main Street home and the 21-year-old woman was found in a local hotel room.

Anyone with information on either incident is asked to call Sgt. Shaun O'Keefe of the police department's Special Enforcement Team at 732-349-0150, ext. 1272 or the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office at 732-341-6150.

Last month, a 20-year-old Toms River woman and 35-year-old Brick man were believed to have died from drug overdoses in the township. Mastronardy at the time said that Toms River is facing a "dramatic increase" in heroin use.

there were 2 also in lacey last week....whats going on here?

The cold hard fact is no good comes from the use of hard core drugs but just last week a group of the nations new influential people led by Ron Howard in Hollywood called for a nationl downgrading of narcotic laws. So on one had you have victims dying and on the other hand high profile actors and Hollywood names saying do away with or lesson the strictness of Controlled Dangerous Substance laws. Guess who gets the most national press.

What are WE as parents doing wrong? How are SO many kids on this crap? What is it they can not face? This isn't getting high, this is getting ossified. I don't get it. We learned in the 60s and 70 this stuff DEATH. How is it the kids of 2013 don't get it? Breaks my heart!
Speed Racer April 18, 2013 at 08:54 PM

I wonder if they copped from the Ziggy Marley wannabe?

It is actually good for the community that these idiots are dying, it is the only way we are going to win the war on drugs and reduce crime. Let's face it, drug users only get a slap on the wrist and rarely get jail time. They contribute to crime, drugs aren't cheap and endanger the community by driving while high. Let's hope the trend continues and more addicts die.

Another 21 year old in Toms River over dosed and passed away today. I pray someone's friend steps up and lets the police know where these kids are buying their drugs from. Sounds like there's some really bad stuff out there, and no one wants anyone else losing their lives because they are making a bad decision to choose to use drugs. The middlemen can lead the police to the main source. I don't know how realistic that is, but if it were my friend who died, I would do whatever I could to make sure no more of my friends had to die the same way.
david April 19, 2013 at 04:56 AM
@chris Christie, well im on of them idiots you think should just die! this is a very painful addiction that I have been dealing with for 20 years now, so let me just say why don't you come n take me out my misery!
Rita Ruzzo Bryant April 19, 2013 at 01:10 PM
Wow, ignorance at it's best. I don't think you would feel this way if it was one of your family members. Addiction doesn't discriminate, it actually touches almost most families in one way or another.
Rita Ruzzo Bryant April 19, 2013 at 01:11 PM
David, you have to ignore the ignorance of some people and pray no one in her/his family is ever addicted to anything. They have no clue
RCL67 April 20, 2013 at 12:55 AM
Drugs even affect the best of families. I have seen good people get caught up in this hell. Many people do drugs to " ease the pain" of depression, hurt in their lives and many other factors. Please don't judge. BUT, on the other hand, they will steal, lie, cheat and do what ever it takes to get their hands on drugs. It is a vicious cycle. They need help. It is a real sin......

jerseyshoregirl4 - I couldnt agree with you more!!! The kids who are friends with all the kids that have died recently - at least 12 kids in the last 6 months alone just from Toms River and Lacey - need to turn in the dealers. Who are also kids from Toms River area. Some are even siblings of friends. If that's what you call a friend that is disgusting. If all of the kids knowingly withhold names and other information of the dealers in town, than they might as well be murderers too. HOW MANY MORE FRIENDS DO YOU WANT TO SEE DIE???? IT'S NOT BEING A "RAT" IF YOU ARE SAVING A LIFE. CALL THE POLICE HOTLINE - ANONYMOUSLY AND GIVE OUT THE NAMES - LIKE JOE HAMILL AND OTHERS. At least he did get arrested recently. Hopefully he will tell where he got the drugs from that he was selling to "friends". That is the only way it's going to stop or at least slow down. And if you know who is doing drugs, turn them in to the police or take them to the hospital. It has to stop. So many parents have had their kids in and out of rehabs, over and over again. The system is broken - and it's broken bad. These kids need HELP!!! The parents need help. Things need to change!!!! These kids that are dying most of us have known since kindergarten. They are good kids that come from good families. Addiction knows no prejudice. It is sad! Very, very sad.

And you are idiot for commenting that you wish they would all die - you really need to shut up. Don't wish bad things on good people - maybe instead of being so ignorant you might do a little research and even something in a positive way to help out instead of wishing people dead - you know what they say - "what goes around, comes around" - so be careful what you wish for CC.
Lisa Egan April 25, 2013 at 12:02 PM
wow .. my son was the last of those idiots to die ! please don't anyone try and tell me that the world will be a better place without kids like him ! my world has just crashed and burned !
Rita Ruzzo Bryant April 25, 2013 at 12:43 PM
Lisa Egan, my deepest condolences. Lets pray this ignorant person never has to deal with your unimaginable loss. Big hugs

CFH2660 April 25, 2013 at 01:03 PM
Lisa - I am so very sorry for your loss. My son was a long time friend of Josh's and is devestated by his passing. Josh was a good boy, always respectful and had many, many friends that cared deeply about him. It sickens me, what is going on, not only in TR, but all around us, to our children. May the Lord help you through this time and may your good memories of Josh be forever in your heart.

Dainty, Paremts aren't doing anything wrong!! you can't compair one or two parents to all their friends they are just taken the advice from friends and trying to be cool. I blame the Law the Dealers should be getting hit with Murder charges instead of a slap on the hand..So so sad what this world is coming too!!
nycgirl April 25, 2013 at 11:11 PM
Omg! That is really harash to wish death on someone. I wonder if it was your kid how would you like it...
Owen McMahon June 07, 2013 at 03:25 AM
God... I just heard about this today. Let me tell you this kid was a sweetheart, a really beautiful soul. I was a next door neighbor to her grandfather some years ago. What a loss. She was an angel.
