Power Restored to Western Toms River Residents

By midnight Wednesday, power was restored to residents of the western portions of Toms River Township.

Jersey Central Power and Light said less than 20 customers were out of power by 1:30 a.m. and crews were investigating the cause.

Police spokesman Ralph Stocco said officers responded to the area of Whitesville Road and Route 70 at about 8:20 p.m. Tuesday, at which time they found a live power line was in the roadway and a heavy smoke condition.

Detours were set up in the area as JCP&L crews fixed the issue.

There was no word on what, exactly, caused the power line to fall.
