Power Restored to Western Toms River Residents

By midnight Wednesday, power was restored to residents of the western portions of Toms River Township.

Jersey Central Power and Light said less than 20 customers were out of power by 1:30 a.m. and crews were investigating the cause.

Police spokesman Ralph Stocco said officers responded to the area of Whitesville Road and Route 70 at about 8:20 p.m. Tuesday, at which time they found a live power line was in the roadway and a heavy smoke condition.

Detours were set up in the area as JCP&L crews fixed the issue.

There was no word on what, exactly, caused the power line to fall.

A wire just broke free from a pole and fell to the ground -- another example of JCP&L's horrible (non)maintenance. While profits go to corp. HQ in Ohio, JCP&L wants to impose more rate increases on us.

Another JCP&L wire is being repaired on Church Rd. at Hooper Ave. -- tying up traffic from Brick Blvd. and the entire area because the traffic signals are out, necessitating several township cops to handle traffic jams and vehicles crossings for much of the day. WHEN WILL THE STATE CRACK DOWN ON JCP&L for its shoddy maintenance? There are so many outages and other problems that sometimes I feel like we're in a third-world country.

What do you expect from union slugs? Remember after Sandy? It was the out of state guys who did the fast, quality work.
