Route 571 Closed After "Smoking" Container Spotted

The closure happened after a motorist reported a hazardous substance in a small container on the side of the road was smoking

Toms River Police had to closed Route 571 just east of Route 9 at 730 for two hours Friday night, police said.

The closure happened after a motorist reported a hazardous substance in a small container on the side of the road was smoking.

Following protocol Pleasant Plains Fire Department and Paul Daley of emergency management responded.  Sergeant Ed Mooney coordinated the police detour and Berkeley Hazmat assisted in the cleanup of the product that apparently dropped from a vehicle.
