Route 9 and Church Road Traffic Light Falls, Snarling Traffic

Police direct traffic amid lane closures

Motorists found themselves stuck in traffic after a signal failed at Route 9 and Church Road in Toms River, around 8 p.m. Monday. The traffic light collapsed onto the roadway after an apparent crash, the details of which were not immediately available.

Toms River Police directed traffic at the intersection, closing the left turn lane from Church Road onto Route 9 southbound at the busy intersection in Pleasant Plains section of town.

The traffic signal failure came after northbound traffic had just begun subsiding from an incident on the Garden State Parkway that diverted traffic onto Route 9.
