Search Continues for Man Wanted in Toms River Stabbing

Police said Steven Rosado should be considered dangerous

Steven Rosado, 20, of Lakewood, was charged Sunday in the death of Kevin Copes, 25, of Lakewood. The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said Sunday Rosado allegedly stabbed Copes in a 1:30 a.m. Saturday incident, in the parking lot of a Toms River apartment complex.

Police were called to Community Medical Center Saturday for a report of stab wounds after friends brought Copes to the hospital.

The next day prosecutors named Rosado as the suspect, charging him with murder and setting his bail at $750,000 no 10 percent option.

Rosado is considered dangerous, police said.

"Mr. Rosado is currently at large.  The public's assistance is being sought in locating him," said Executive Assistant Prosecutor Michel A. Paulhus. A photo of Rosado has been released.

Further details on the stabbing, as well as a shooting that happened in Toms River approximately an hour earlier, were not released.

"This investigation is ongoing, that's all I can say," Paulhus said.

The search is being conducted by the Toms River Police and Ocean County Prosecutor's and Sheriffs offices, Paulhus said.
