Second Indictment for Man Charged with Car Burglaries

Toms River resident also indicted at end of April

A Toms River resident who was previously indicted this month on charges of breaking into vehicles and stealing their contents was indicted on a second set of theft charge last week.

Anthony J. Serafino, 28, of Walchest Drive, Toms River, is accused of stealing jewelry and gold coins from a Beachwood woman between Jan. 26 and May 26, 2010.

The incident occurred about a year before Serafino was arrested again for allegedly breaking into vehicles parked around town.

On Feb. 9, Serafino was arrested and charged with a car burglary allegedly in the Kmart plaza. He was indicted for the charge by an Ocean County grand jury at the end of April.

Toms River Police Chief Michael Mastronardy said at the time of that a witness contacted police after she saw a man attempting to open doors of vehicles parked in the K-Mart shopping plaza on Route 37 eastbound.

Mastronardy said the suspect broke into one vehicle in the parking lot, and police arrived to investigate.  Toms River Police Officer Robert O’Neil made the arrest, and Serafino was placed in Ocean County Jail on $50,000 bail.

That month, Serafino was arrested two other times on charges of breaking into cars.
