Smash-and-Grab Car Burglaries Reported in Movie Theater Parking Lots

Several incidents this week at Toms River's two movie theater parking lots

Toms River Police are investigating two car burglaries in movie theater parking lots, where a suspect smashed through vehicle windows to find valuables.

Toms River Police Chief Michael Mastronardy said police responded to a 9:30 p.m. and a 10:45 p.m. car burglary at the AMC Movie Theater lot in Pavilion and at the Marquee Cinema lot in West Dover Monday.

A witness reported the 10:45 p.m. car burglary in the Marquee lot on Route 37 West, saying two windows on cars there were smashed by a male suspect, Mastronardy said.

Police are looking for a male, who was wearing black pants, a white t-shirt and a black baseball cap. He is believed to be connected to a car break-in an hour earlier at the on Bay Avenue.

In the Marquee incident, the suspect removed a purse from a vehicle, then hopped into the passenger a black pick-up truck with a hitch and tinted windows. The male driver fled eastbound on Rotue 37.

In the AMC Theater incident, a 67 year-old Bayville woman found her Nissan's window was smashed, but nothing was reported missing from the car.

Anyone with information should call headquarters at 732-349-0150.

Really guys? Your reaction to this is "oh well, the town's gone to shit" and throw your hands up in the air? I agree with Sue, but from the article about the Bank Robbery it seems like the TRPD is on the ball (or just got really lucky), but overwhelmed or undermanned.

lowlife scums......seriously, we work hard for our stuff and it is hard in these times. replacing a smashed window is an expense. Yea, never leave valuables in your car. TR police do a great job......

I guess my ex was lucky that they also tried to pry his door open bc it was more than the deductible and ins covered it for the most part when he had window replaced and door either fixed or replaced. But that along with a ticket and his insurance went sky high.
