Snowmobiler Was Trapped for Hours After Crash, Police Say

Robert D. Bassini Jr. was flown to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries Saturday night.

A snowmobiler who spent about two hours trapped in the snow, unable to call for help after crashing into a tree in Whiting had to be flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center Saturday night, Manchester Township Police said.

Robert D. Bassini Jr., 27, had been headed up Nature Way on his Polar snowmobile when it left the road, hit a tree and left Bassini helpless, police said.

A passing motorist noticed the aftermath of the crash just before 11 p.m., called police and officers were able to find Bassini and get him evacuated to the hospital, police said.
