Snowstorm Leaves More Than 35 Accidents in Its Wake

Nearly a foot of snow falls in local area

The snowstorm that snarled local roads and led to the cancellation of school in Toms River on Wednesday also proved to be a major inconvenience for motorists.

Toms River Police Chief Mitch Little said there were between 35 and 40 motor vehicle accidents from the time the snow started until it ended.

The National Weather Service did not provide a snow total for Toms River, however it reported that neighboring Brick Township received 11.5 inches while Manahawkin received 8 inches.

The storm forced the closure of Toms River Regional schools Wednesday, and pushed Tuesday evening Board of Education meeting back to Thursday night.

The Ocean County Library planned to reopen at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
