Trooper alerted by concerned motorist

A New Jersey State Trooper was injured followed a police chase of a suspected drunken driver through Toms River early Sunday morning.

At approximately 2 a.m. on Sunday, Trooper Matthew Kryscnski, who was assigned to a Driving While Intoxicated patrol in the Ocean County area, was approached by a concerned motorist regarding a vehicle driving recklessly, according to state police.

Kryscnski located the vehicle, a tan 2001 Hyundai Elantra and observed the vehicle driving in an erratic manner on Route 37 westbound, said Trooper I. Christopher M. Kaye.

Kryscnski attempted to stop the Hyundai, however the driver and sole occupant, Shane G. Liscik, 20, of Waretown, attempted to elude Kryscnski and a pursuit was initiated.

Liscik lost control of his vehicle multiple times and crashed into Kryscnski's marked car.

After colliding with the marked car, Liscik continued to flee and struck a tree on Bartlett Street in Toms River.

As a result of the collisions from Lascik's vehicle, Kryscnski sustained injuries to his right wrist, elbow and shoulder, Kaye said.

He was treated at Community Medical Center and released.

Liscik was arrested for driving under the influence and multiple motor vehicle charges including: reckless driving, speeding, unsafe lane change, and disregard of traffic signals.

In addition to the motor vehicle charges, Lascik was charged with the following criminal charges: resisting arrest/eluding 2nd degree, reckless endangerment 3rd degree, possession of weapons for unlawful purpose 3rd Degree, and assault by auto 4th degree.

Further investigation into this incident revealed that the Hyundai Elantra was stolen, Kaye said.

Lascik was charged by the Toms River Police Department with the theft of a motor vehicle.

Lascik was lodged in the Ocean County Jail in default of $75,000 full cash bail.

Assisting in the pursuit and apprehension of Liscik were members of the Toms River Police Department.
