Storm Cleanup Continues, Light at Cedar Grove and Clifton Now Working

Crews continued to remove fallen branches through Sunday night after Saturday storm

Portions of Cedar Grove Road near Clifton Avenue spent the start of Sunday night in the dark, more than 24 hours after a violent thunderstorm led to power outages throughout Toms River.

Around 11:30 p.m., a traffic light at the intersection of Clifton and Cedar Grove was again directing traffic. Since late Saturday night, the traffic signal had been out.

For most of Sunday, vehicles traveling north on Clifton could only make a right turn on to Cedar Grove. Traffic safety cones directed traffic away from Cedar Grove westbound.

The road was partially closed. Making a left turn from Clifton or driving straight onto Frann Road was not possible for much of Sunday.

The traffic light's outage was part of a widespread power outage affecting as many as in Toms River, according to Jersey Central Power & light.

At 9:30 p.m., tree clearing crews and utility workers were tending to the area over westbound Cedar Grove, before the Clifton Avenue intersection.

At 2:30 a.m. Monday, JCP&L was reporting 290 customers were still in the dark.

Now I feel lucky to only have had 10 hours wo power n mainly wo AC! And it was 7 ish pm to 5 am so not the hottest part of the day. I hope no one was made sick or sicker due to lack of AC etc.

Can I make a claim against JCP&L for spoiled food in my regrig. because of no power for over 24 hours? The $5 ShopRite gift card from JCP&L for ice just didn't cut it. My loss was over $50.
