Summons Issued After Minor School Bus Accident at T.R. North

Driver says brakes failed on school bus

A Toms River Regional school bus driver was issued a summons for careless driving after she told police the brakes on her bus failed, causing it to strike three cars in the High School North parking lot.

No students were on the bus at the time, police spokesman Ralph Stocco said. The accident occurred on Monday at 4:23 p.m.

The driver, Barbara Revel, 61, of Whiting, told police she was in the parking lot facing north and was intending to pick up students that were waiting, Stocco said. She released the brake and then began to move, but stated that as she continued west in the parking lot the brakes failed.

She then lost control of the vehicle and struck three parked cars, Stocco said.

Revel was taken to Community Medical Center for treatment of minor arm pain before being issued the summons.
