Three people were taken to a trauma center Thursday afternoon as a result of an accident on Fischer Boulevard near the intersection with Monty Road.

The 3:22 p.m. accident occurred, police said, when Allen Mullen, 76, of Longpoint Drive in Toms River was exiting 1001 Fischer Boulevard in his 2009 Ford F150 and crashed into a 2003 BMW sedan while turning left.

The BMW was being driven by Elysa Caldwell, 25, of Sleepy Hollow Road who had two siblings, ages 14 and 16, in the vehicle with her, police spokesman Ralph Stocco said. The impact of the accident, he said, forced the BMW to veer into oncoming traffic and strike a 1999 Ford Taurus head on. The Taurus was being driven by Thomas Sharkey, 45, of Wilson Avenue in Toms River.

Caldwell, the BMW driver, was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center along with her two siblings. Caldwell and the 14-year-old sibling were taken by ambulance to the hospital while the 16-year-old was taken by medevac helicopter, Stocco said.

Mullen, the F150 driver, was issued a traffic summons for careless driving, Stocco said.

Well Thank You, * ... that was very courteous of you to help me out like that. I'm sure two of the three posts were posted as a "reply" --don't remember if the third one was as well. ::: shrugs ::: So sorry if I hurt your feelings with unfair accusations. :-)

Fischer is a nightmare! I have had cars careen out of the old Cost Cutter plaza and cut right in front of me, or use that lane to drive almost the length of Fischer. You really have to keep your wits about you on that road. Best recovery wishes to all involved!

You are welcome Mattie, I've been having a difficult time myself with the reply tag. I do see your posts now.

A lot of states have done away with these center turn lanes because of this problem. they are referred to as suicide lanes, because that's what they are . A traffic nightmare as those in this accident have found out, they should be out of this state long ago. NJ new this when they CHANGED the traffic pattern, and they did it anyway , so some have to pay the price for poor planning and death to pay the Gov'mt. Save dollars , but have more death's because of poor planning by those in charge . Like Killary , you have blood on your hands O.C .Freeholders...$$$$$ makes the world go round.

How about the schmuck that rear-ended a pickup truck on 571 in front of Home Depot this morning?
