Four-Vehicle Crash Closes New Hampshire, Hospitalizes Five

County truck among those hit after another car strays into oncoming traffic

A four-vehicle accident sent five occupants to the hospital as multiple fire, EMS and police responded to the crash that closed New Hampshire Avenue in Toms River for about an hour.

Toms River Police are continuing to investigate the 9 a.m. Thursday collission on New Hampshire Road and North Maple Avenue. Toms River Police Chief Michael Mastronardy said a northbound vehicle crossed into southbound lanes of New Hampshire and struck three vehicles.

Two people were transported to Jersey Shore University Hospital and three others were taken to other hospitals, Mastronardy said, who have not released names or other details.

In a photo released by Toms River Police, the collision involved a county vehicle, a dark car and a van and one other vehicle. Collision debris was scattered across the roadway, and multiple emergency responders were called to assist in extrication.

Pleasant Plains, Silverton and Toms River Fire Companies responded for extrication of one of the victims. Silverton, Toms River Police and Lakewood Township EMS responded and transported the victims. Lakewood Police assisted in closing down New Hampshire Avenue for one hour between North Maple Locust Street.
