Toms River Investor Accused of Stealing More Than $75K from Clients

Anyone who used Retirement Business Specialist is asked to contact authorities

A Toms River investor was charged with skimming more than $75,000 from clients over a four year period, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office announced.

Peter M. Martorana, 59, who operates Retirement Benefit Specialist on Jamaica Boulevard, was arrested at his Wall home Wednesday and charged with theft after an investigation by the prosecutor’s office Economic Crimes Bureau, officials said.

Martorana is suspected of taking money from investors and using those funds for personal gain over a period of four years, according to the prosecutor’s office.

Detectives from the Economic Crimes Bureau executed search warrants at Martorana's residence in Wall and Toms River office, removing evidence from both, the prosecutor’s office said.

Martorana was charged with theft of more than $75,000 dollars and his bail was set at $75,000, no ten percent option. A photo of Martorana is not available, the prosecutor’s office said.

The investigation, which began in June 2013, is ongoing, according to officials.

Authorities ask that anyone who has given monies to Martorana and/or Retirement Business Specialist for investments to contact Detective James Conroy of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office at 732-929-2027, ext. 4362.

The prosecutor’s office Hi-Tech Crimes Unit and police from Berkeley and Wall assisted with the investigation, authorities said.
