Toms River Man, 19, Charged in Seaside Stabbing

Verbal argument at hotel escalated into stabbing, police said.

An 18 year-old male is now in stable condition after a stabbing last weekend in Seaside Heights that police said is still under investigation.

The victim, whose name was not released, remains in Jersey Shore Medical Center due to multiple stab wounds to his abdomen, said Seaside Heights Det. Steve Korman.

Devaun Nettles, 19, of Route 166 in Toms River, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon and unlawful possession of a weapon by Seaside Heights police, Korman said.

The detective said the two men began arguing, and the verbal argument turned violent, with Nettles drawing a knife and stabbing the victim in his abdomen multiple times.

"A verbal argument escalated into a physical altercation," Korman said.

The incident was 11:30 p.m. May 20 at Seaport Motel's Apt. 1 on Carteret Avenue, police said.

Korman said the police are continuing the investigation to identify witnesses to the stabbing. Ptl. Robert Hanlon issued the charges, and Detectives Luigi Violante and Elijah Bryant are investigating.

Nettles was processed at Ocean County Jail, $15,000 bail.

We live in Ortley Beach, several blocks from the north end of the Seaside boardwalk. Last Memorial Day weekend was a nightmare. I know we're in a resort area and expect things to change during the "season", but the absolute disregard and disrespect for people and property shown by some visitors was disgusting. I dread this weekend more than any other holiday.

This is just the tip of things to come. Sad, you can't even bring your family down the shore anymore. Everyone wants to fight, just sad. Seaside PD is going to have their hands full again.

Memorial Day is coming up, the weather is getting very warm, the "Benny element" is flocking in Seaside. Let the games begin. I hope the cops come down hard over there.

Listen people seaside is a wonderful town. It is clean and respectful for all ages. Please do not judge this town on one incident.
billy jones May 25, 2012 at 05:51 PM
And let's also remember the people that come to visit in the summer, are also the people who spend their money in this town. Giving the people of seaside greater tax cuts. They help the mom and pop stores of this town grow.
So Much to Say May 25, 2012 at 05:53 PM
Sleezeside hasn't been respectable and clean for many many years. I live 3 miles from the boardwalk and I haven't been there in 20 years. BENNY'S GO HOME!!!!!
billy jones May 25, 2012 at 06:04 PM
So much please. Calling it sleezside is just an immature way of speaking. Do yourself and all of us a favor. Go back to sleep and remember, it not your fault you are like this.
Anita Cox May 25, 2012 at 06:23 PM
Statistically seaside is one of the safest places in the USA..I'm sure the victim must of done something to provoke this attack
Bricktown Lew May 25, 2012 at 06:58 PM
Mom and pop stores...or bars??? I don't think respectable mom and pop store are open late selling alcohol to out of town trouble. Just an observation...
billy jones May 25, 2012 at 07:03 PM
Anita you are right about the static. And we don't know all the facts yet. But provoking someone to stab you. I think there are other alternatives.
So Much to Say May 25, 2012 at 07:43 PM
Whatever.....get with the picture....ALL the locals call it Sleezeside. WHY, because it is!!
Comfortably Numb May 25, 2012 at 08:55 PM
Ah yes Seaside...good times.
Smitty May 26, 2012 at 03:39 AM
Billy jones must really be retarted , the place is a zoo , with all animals out of control , those animals don't spend money up there , the family and working people do , but once they come up there and see that trash of a crowd they never come back . Those same animals ruined every boardwalk resort area up and down the whole coast . God bless tommy Boyd he's your last hope. And soon people won't let him do anything either then it's really over .
David Daur May 26, 2012 at 04:33 AM
Anita Cox... What type of inhumane animals raised you that you can justify any reason for any person to stab another human being??? Please get back in your car and go back to your home up north to watch the Jerry Springer show.

"Devaun Nettles"......"GUILTY"
Pat S. May 26, 2012 at 01:50 PM
My sympathies go out to the decent people who live in Seaside. The absentee landlords are only interested in the $ they can rake in, and it's at the expense of the taxpayers there. Granted, the town does depend on tourist revenue, but it doesn't have to sell itself out. But when the powers-that- be have businesses in the town, it's pretty obvious what will happen!
Mike May 26, 2012 at 07:55 PM
I agree with smitty the place is a zoo, those young trashy kids up there are a disgrace , that's because family value is gone , go ahead and take your wife and kid up there tonight about 9 pm and see how much respect you get , those animals say stuff right to your wife and daughters . And theres ten of them , I don't care how tuff you are 10 against one your done . They are animals out of control they ruin every board walk area up and down the entire coast . I agree
