Toms River Man Arrested in 7-Eleven Robbery

Nathaniel Bennett was arrested at his home early Saturday

A Toms River man has been arrested and charged in Wednesday’s robbery of the 7-Eleven on Route 166, police said.

Nathaniel Bennett, 43, of Vaughn Avenue, was arrested at his home just before 3 a.m. on Saturday by Detective Alex Scherer, Toms River Police Chief Michael Mastronardy said.

The convenience store and gas station, near Route 571 in Pleasant Plains, was robbed early Oct. 10, police said.

The incident involved a man who said he had a weapon, though no weapon was shown, said Toms River Police Capt. Steven Henry. The man demanded money from the attendant at the 7-11, stole "a small amount of cash" and then fled on foot.

Henry said no injuries were reported.

Bennett was taken to the Ocean County Jail, Toms River, where he is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail, no 10 percent option, on the robbery charge and two other warrants issued by the Toms River Municipal Court, Mastronardy said.

Assisting in the arrest were Officer Ryan Quinn, Sgt. Raymond Maloney, and Officers James Carey, Joe Mastronardy and Kyle Martucci.
