Toms River Man Charged With Drunk Driving After Crash

Police make two drunk driving arrests in less than an hour, police chief says

Toms River police have charged a township man with driving while intoxicated after his 2001 Jeep struck a mailbox and two trees early this morning, Police Chief Michael G. Mastronardy said.

Evan Eldridge, 20, was traveling on West Whitty Road at 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning when his vehicle left the roadway, the chief said.

Traffic Safety Officer Robert Westfall is investigating.

Westfall had just made another drunk driving arrest shortly before the crash, Mastronardy said.

He stopped Adam Mesler, 28, Toms River after a motor vehicle stop at Route 37 and Clifton Avenue at 12:30 a.m.. Mesler was charged with driving while intoxicated, the chief said.
