Toms River Man Charged With DWI After Accident

Second township resident, 28, faces DWI charge after Route 37 traffic stop

A Toms River man is facing drunk driving charges after being involved in a single-vehicle accident.

Evan Eldridge, 20, was driving his 2001 Jeep on West Whitty Road when the vehicle left the roadway around 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning, Chief Michael Mastronardy said.

The Jeep struck a mailbox and two trees before coming to a stop, but there were no reported injuries. An investigation by Traffic Safety Officer Robert Westfall resulted in the driver being charged with DWI, said Mastronardy.

The accident occurred an hour after Westfall made another DWI arrest, the chief said. After making a motor vehicle stop at Route 37 and Clifton Avenue at 12:30 a.m. Sunday morning, Adam Mesler, 28, of Toms River, was also charged with drunk driving.
