Toms River Man Charged With Sexual Assault Of 14-Year-Old

A Toms River man has been charged with sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl, according the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office.

Eugene Richardson, 25, was charged with sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child. Bail was set at $150,000 with no 10 percent option.

On Oct. 26, at approximately 11:55 p.m., Toms River Police Officer Michael Cassaday, while patrolling the downtown area, made contact with Richardson and, after a computer check, discovered that he was wanted for a June 2013 incident in which he allegedly sexually assaulted a 14-year-old female.

In the June 2013 assault, the victim reported the incident to the Manchester Police Department and underwent a sexual assault examination.  Evidence collected as a result of the examination was submitted by Det. Scott Frey of the Ocean County Sheriff's Department to the New Jersey State Police Laboratory for forensic review. 

On Oct. 4, Detective Stephanie Bayha of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office received the NJSP lab report confirming that the defendant's DNA was collected during the sexual assault examination, according to the prosecutor's office.
