Toms River Man Faces Assault, Robbery Charges in Best Buy Incident

By Adam Hochron

A Toms River resident’s trip to the Howell Best Buy ended with him being taken to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution by the local police department.

On December 1 at noon Robert Dosil Jr., 32, was seen attempting to hide merchandise from the store under his coat. When he was leaving the store he was approached by employees and charged at one knocking them to the floor. A second employee was able to hold Dosil before being punched in the eye.

Following the second employee being hit more workers got involved and the struggle continued just outside the store near the main entrance. Despite more people getting involved Dosil was able to break free and run across the parking lot before finally being taken down by more store employees. He was taken into custody by Officers Peter Kuppler and John Barroquiero.

By the time officers from the Howell Township Police Department arrived on the scene there were two store employees who suffered various injuries including scrapes, cuts, bruises and swelling but they did not require medical treatment. Dosil was initially treated at police headquarters for scrapes to his knee, wrist and pain to his pinky finger and was taken to CentraState Medical Center for further treatment.

After being released from the hospital he was taken to the county jail in lieu of $100,000 with a 10 percent option. He faces charges including robbery by force, aggravated assault, shoplifting and possession of hypodermic syringes.

Sounds like the "Geek Squad" had a bit of a rough time taking the thief down.

Sounds like he would make a better line backer than a thief.

good for those employees not letting him get away. although the syringes scare me a bit if they were on him and someone got stuck, including the officers.

Many retail stores DO NOT want their employees getting involved in matters such as this one.. Just hoping that none of these employees are punished for their actions..

That is true, bayway mike...I, as well, hope they do not get reprimanded for their actions. Hey, Grace...good one!

I don't think they pay employees nearly enough to do what they did. it's foolish. what if someone had been seriously hurt? over what? a laptop? Ipad? what if the guy had a gun? next time, get a description and call the police.
