A Toms River man is facing felony drug charges following his arrest during a sting operation last week.
Authorities allege that Hassan Elghawy, of Perkiomen Penn., and a Toms River man tried to sell seven pounds of marijuana to an undercover detective.
According to court documents, Elghawy and Omar Nasser Ahmed, of Toms River, met with undercover Montgomery County Detective Vincent Fuentes near the Rocco's Brick Oven Pizzeria on Route 29 in Collegeville at about 9:30 p.m. on July 24.
In his affadavit, Fuentes stated that he had arranged to meet the pair in order to purchase five pounds of marijuana for $20,000 in cash.
Elghawy and Ahmed arrived at the meeting site in separate vehicles, according to Fuentes, who then discussed the proposed marijuana sale with the men. Fuentes stated that Ahmed then transferred a "large black duffel bag" from his trunk into Elghawy's trunk, after which Fuentes examined its contents and saw "approximately seven pounds" of marijuana.
Both men are charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, conspiracy, and related charges.
A preliminary hearing originally scheduled for July 31 was postponed.
