Toms River Man Sliced in Face at Seaside Heights Bar

Incident was 2:30 a.m. Saturday

A 36 year-old Toms River man was sliced in his face with a knife at a Seaside Heights bar early Saturday, police said.

Seaside Heights Police Det. Steve Korman said few details were available as police continue to investigate and interview witnesses to an aggravated assault in Bar Riggers, 2:30 a.m. June 16.

“We’re trying to piece things together,” Korman said. “We’re very active on the investigation.”

The Toms River resident was attacked with a knife and suffered lacerations to his face, Korman said. The man was treated at Community Medical Center and released.

No suspects in the knife incident have been apprehended.

However, police made an unrelated arrest after they arrived at the bar, started to investigate, and a bar patron allegedly became disorderly, Korman said.

“The individual was uncooperative and wouldn’t back away,” Korman said.

Shannon Johnson, whose address was not released, was charged with disorderly conduct and obstruction.

Police continue to search for a suspect in the knife incident.

Seaside Heights Ptl. Shawn Heckler and Det. Luigi Violante are investigating.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Seaside Heights Police Detective Bureau at 732-793-1800.

And people will blame the "Jersey Shore" cast for this. The town is a dump. I lived in SSH. what a crap hole. my wife was afraid to walk to church by herself. during the winter you are afraid for your life. during the summer you have the rocky balboas walking around waiting for you to look at them the wrong way.
DT June 18, 2012 at 02:00 PM
Afraid for your life in the winter? Please, it isn't Camden.
Carolina Shores June 18, 2012 at 02:31 PM
DT, your right. It's a not Camden. It's a small Camden. You will not see a 40 something year old middle-class woman from any other town walking around there at 7:00 P.M.. I lived there. And any one walking around there during the winter is shady. LIVED IT!

Based on what was said about Seaside Heights in the winter, I cannot disagree. That towns turns into a complete ghost town filled with junkies in the winter. I worked at Babes corner store for a very short time last winter, and almost every customer looked the same.

Been going to the shore all my life. Made a trip down there on Saturday, make no eye contact, and made sure we left before dark. Seaside was always Seaside, but you never, not even for one second, had to think about possibly being injured or dead like you do now. I'd love to know how many knives and guns were on that boardwalk Saturday. Its really sad when you have to wonder about this kind of crap when you take a trip to the shore, used to be nothing but smiles and a good time for everyone. Yep - the attitude has moved in.

Sleazeside is about one thing- money. No matter that it has chased decent people and families away because it allows slumlords, degenerates, and gangs to do their thing at the expense of its law-abiding citizens. Now they think that by bringing Disney Radio to town, that it will bring families back. With all the bad press that it gets, no one in their right minds would bring their children there!

The last time I went to seaside, and I mean the last time, walking down the biards with the wife and kids I saw and heard gangs of young adults cat calling and making crude remarks to any female that walked by. It didnt matter if she was 12 years old or 50 years old. If she looked good she got called to. It didnt matter if she was with a boyfriend, husband or father. When the dirty punks are in a group, they feel tough enough to make remarks to your girlfriend and then they want to fight you if you give them a look or say something back. No family should ever go to seaside boardwalk or beach. The water park is still okay. But stay off the boards especially at night.

Some advice for parents. If your daughter hangs out in Seaside, especially at night, she is a slut. Their are no doubts about it. So fathers, if your daughter tells you that she goes to Seaside regularly, you know you have a daughter that gives the jersey shore boy types exactly what they want.

I live in SSH currently. There are still a lot of hard working families and those that have lived here for many many years that are decent law abiding citizens. I walk in the winter...and no I am not a shady person. I have lived here for almost 4 years now. Yes there are a lot of shady ppl in the winter, I don't walk around at night here unless I am with someone. And yesterday I can tell you it was crazy busy on the BW with Father's Day and such. So where you all are getting that no families are coming here, I don't know. I do not go to the BW at night especially after 9pm, last year there was a huge gang fight from ppl coming in from Camden area, so yes agree that most of the ppl you see on the BW after 9pm are just up to no good.

You need to remember that society, our society was very different in those days before "The Summer of Love", Kent State and our societal loss of personal responsibility and self respect. In 1962-70 we as a society would not have put up with such nonsense, nor would the police and the courts. Today as recently displayed in this incident and the recent acts of ludicrous behavior by some “TV Stars”, using that term very loosely, since neither could hold a candle to the Walbergs, Tom Seleck or Sela Ward. In 1972 the young lady who went dancing in the street would be sweeping it for the rest of the summer and the fellow would be cowering in the OC Jail. It’s time for the Bar Owners to stop serving drunks. For the cops to do meaningful “Tough Guy” patrols, rousting undesirables. To end the proliferate teenaged drinking, pandering, lubricious behavior and for the courts to stop giving out free passes. Where is Judge Roy Bean when we really need him. The Ocean City solution, going dry, is no solution at all. We just need tougher enforcement.

I met a couple from Florence, Italy, yesterday, at the Toms River Park & Ride. They asked me for directions to Seaside Heights. After I told them, I inquired, "so, WHAT makes you WANT to go to Seaside Heights?" The man replied, "we want to meet Snooki!"

At least the first 2 blocks from the water, too far inland, it's Camden
michael rossi June 25, 2012 at 05:11 PM
Why do u guys go down the shore in the winter ? and I was their during winter to visit a friend its fine, really their are mostly kids down their and they go spend way too much money down their for it to be anything close to camden, now that the show is their forget about it
holyhhh June 25, 2012 at 05:39 PM
Yes, there are drug dealers stalking water st. and hanging out in the 7-11 parking lot all the time! No police in sight EVER. I would never go to Hudddy Park or walk around downtown because of this. This town is really turning ugly.
michael rossi June 26, 2012 at 06:51 AM
Something doesn't make sense, if seaside gets shady in the winter all those houses that people rent out would get broken into and stuff stolen or know one would own the houses

of all places you live in SSH? WHY?
laceyundercovermole July 01, 2012 at 04:05 PM
Seaside is just Coney Island South. The last decent place that has a Boardwalk is Ocean City....and you can't buy a drink there. It family oriented, not scum oriented.
Martin July 01, 2012 at 04:14 PM
The liquor lobbyists and bar owners have fought off earlier closings in Point Beach and drinking rules Sleazeside, too.
