Toms River Police Arrest Suspected Boscovs Thief

Cops: man struck store security officer as he was trying to flee

Toms River police recently arrested a Jackson man who is accused of stealing an electric mixer from the Boscovs store at the Ocean County Mall.

Police were called to the store Feb. 6 after Boscovs loss prevention officers observed a man later identified as Michael Truszkowski, 29, of Larisa Lane in Jackson, leave the store with a Kitchenaid mixer valued at $349 without paying, said police spokesman Ralph Stocco.

Truszkowski was approached by loss prevention officers and he attempted to flee, leading to a scuffle between the officer and Truszkowski, Stocco said. Both men fell to the ground, and after Truszkowski struck the officer, he attempted to flee again but was apprehended by another store employee.

Truszkowski was arrested by Officer David Lazaro of the Toms River Police Department and charged with second degree robbery, possession of a hypodermic syringe, and possession of drug paraphernalia.  He was held on $50,000 bail at Ocean County Jail.
