Toms River Police Arrive To Find Man Allegedly Burglarizing Business

Toms River Police responded to a burglary call in time to find the suspect still inside, allegedly trying to remove a television from the wall, police said.

Toms River Police Chief Michael Mastronardy said Nice Nails in Stella Towne Plaza shopping center on Route 166 had its front door smashed in just before 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Police were called, and responded to the strip mall store, to find the suspect still inside, Mastronardy said. Edwardo Lopez, 49, of Division Street was allegedly found trying to remove a plasma television and fled, but was apprehended and arrested, charged with the burglary.

"Sergeant Eugene Bachonski responded within minutes and observed Mr. Lopez in the business attempting to remove a plasma television from the wall. The suspect then went to run out the back of the store. Mr. Lopez was immediately apprehended as he exited the rear door," Mastronardy said in an email.

Officers Scott Duncan and Philip Bianco, along with Detective Brian Lomer and Sergeant Scott Moeller aided in the arrest.  

Lopez is being held in Ocean County Jail on $50,000 no 10 percent on charges of burglary and criminal mischief.
