Toms River Police Looking for Attempted Kohl's Thief

Man fled up Route 37 after attempted theft, police say

Toms River police are looking for a man who they say attempted to rob a coffee maker from the local Kohl's store last month.

During the Jan. 6 incident, the suspect was observed by store security on surveillance cameras removing a Keurig coffee maker from the box and attempting to remove the security theft prevention advice, according to police spokesman Ralph Stocco.

He then attempted to leave the store without paying, but dropped the coffee maker and fled when confronted by security officers.

The man then ran north through the parking lot and jumped over the center island fence of Route 37, continuing north on foot, said Stocco.

The suspect is described as a white male in his late 30s with short crew cut and blonde hair. On the date of the incident he was wearing brown jacket, red shirt, and black pants. Investigative information developed by police, Stocco said, indicates that the individual shown in the surveillance photo was involved in the theft and the department is asking the public’s assistance in identifying him.

Anyone with information on this incident is urged to contact Detective Roger Hull at 732-349-0150, ext. 1291 or private message the department on Facebook. All information will remain confidential.
