Toms River Police Make Drug Arrest, Investigate Road Rage Incident

Police arrest suspected drug trafficker, look into road rage report

According to Toms River Township Police Chief Michael Mastronardy, the Toms River Police’s Emergency Services Unit executed a warrant on Tuesday at 108 Lavenham Court, after an investigation into narcotics activity at the residence spanning the last month.

Arrested at that time was 31 year-old Salim Cofi, a resident of that address. Cofi was charged with possession and possession with intent to distribute marijuana and cocaine.

“Police recovered cocaine, marijuana, a digital scale and packaging materials during the execution of the warrant. Mr. Cofi is being held in Ocean County Jail on $25,000 bail,” said Mastronardy.

The chief urged that anyone with information about suspicious activity can contact Sergeant Shaun O’Keefe, Supervisor of the Special Enforcement Team at 732-349-0150, extension 1272.

Also, police were advised of a road rage incident on Route 37 west near Saint Catherine Boulevard on Friday, at 2 p.m. in the afternoon, according to Mastronardy.

“The caller advised the dispatch that occupants of a Nissan Altima with New York plates waved a handgun and were eastbound on Route 37. A short time later, Sergeant Chris Dudzik observed the suspect vehicle, and along with other officers conducted a felony stop on the car on Route 37 near the K-Mart shopping plaza,” said the chief.

The chief stated that the 19 year-old occupants of the car volunteered to have the vehicle searched, but officers were not able to locate the weapon which was reported by the witness.
