Six Toms River police officers received promotions this week. Mayor Thomas Kelaher swore in the officers during the start of the Jan. 28 township council meeting.

Jeffrey Lenox was promoted to captain, Christopher Dudzik  was promoted to lieutenant, Stephen Russell was promoted to sergeant, and Steven Bucci and Duncan MacRae werepromoted to detective.

These officers are moving up in the ranks due to the recent retirement of Chief Michael Mastronardy and the promotion of Mitch Little to chief earlier this month.

Deputy chief is only in Kelaher's mind. Taxpayers don't want to spend the extra money for soothing the mayor's bruised ego when he opposed Little as chief.

don't forget the newly CREATED job of "administrative assistant" to the chief, that is costing the taxpayers of toms river another $50,000+ a year, along with his secrataries salary..and another possible new position of deputy chief..why can't the deputy chief handle the job of "administrative assistant" ??seems since the former chief left were about to add at approx. 70k a year to the payroll not counting the above promotions. WOW !!!
