Toms River Police Searching for Man Who Stole Item From Sears, Struck Security Guard

Suspect took a coffee maker, struck security officer

Toms River police are looking for a man who stole a Keurig coffee maker from the Sears store in the Ocean County Mall on Thursday morning.

Two loss prevention officers attempted to detain the suspect pictured in the surveillance photos attached to this story, however he fled the store and entered his car, said police spokesman Ralph Stocco.

The suspect then put the car in reverse and struck one of the officers and knocked him to the ground, Stocco said.

The vehicle is possibly a white car that had a black panel at the back fender area.  It may have been a Honda Civic or Toyota Scion, according to police.

The suspect is described as a white male in his mid to late 20s and approximately 5’7 to 5’10.  At the time of the incident he was wearing tan pants, a black hoodie jacket with a white zipper and trim, and a baseball hat with a logo on the front.

Anyone with information can contact Detective Thomas Grosse at 732-349-0150, extension 1263 or message the Toms River Police Department on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/tomsriverpolice.
