Toms River Woman Indicted on Charges of Assaulting Police

Whitesville Road resident charged after allegedly threatening two Toms River police officers with knife

A Toms River woman was indicted Thursday on charges of assaulting two township police officers.

Dorothy A. Alston, 43, of Whitesville Road, Toms River, is accused of Oct. 28 aggravated assaults with a knife on Toms River Police Patrolmen Theodore Malone and Shan Ruiz. She's also accused of having the knife for an illegal purpose.

The indictment was handed down Thursday in Ocean County Superior Court in Toms River.

According to the incident report, police arrived at Alston’s home at night Oct. 28, responding to a complaint she had allegedly not paid a $50 taxi fare for a ride from Asbury Park. Police said she grabbed a 14-inch knife in the kitchen and allegedly threatened officers Ruiz and Maloney. The officers arrested her without incident, and no injuries were reported at the time, according to the police report.
