Toms River Woman Who Died in Route 70 Accident Identified

Accident still under investigation and driver still hospitalized

Toms River police have identified the township couple who were involved in a fatal accident on Route 70 Sunday afternoon.

Nancy Thorne, 77, died of the injuries she sustained after the Toyota being driven by her husband, Ronald Thorne, 78, collided with a pickup truck as he was headed southbound on Massachusetts Avenue near the Route 70 intersection.

The couple lived on Meadow Lake Drive in the Lakeridge Community, said Police Chief Michael Mastronardy.

Ronald Thorne was making a left turn from the southbound lane when his car collided with a northbound Ford F-250 pickup truck being driven by Steven Lindley, 51, of Beachwood, Mastronardy said.

No summonses have been issued as a result of the accident, which is still under investigation, according to Mastronardy.

Ronald Thorne is still hospitalized at Jersey Shore University Medical Center after being medevaced there following the accident. Lindley was not injured.
