Embers Set Trailers On Fire

A embers from a fire on Friday afternoon at Tri-State Carting set trailers ablaze at a neighboring business, Hecht Trailers, set off of Route 9 in the Pleasant Plains section on Friday afternoon, snarling northbound traffic as fire fighters cleaned-up and police directed traffic.

The fire was reported at 1 p.m. in a trash bin at Tri-State Carting, and spread to  four storage trailers at Hecht Trailers before crews from Toms River Fire Station No. 29 brought the fire under control at 1:45 p.m.

Paavo Street was temporarily closed as tankers from several fire companies responded to the reported two-alarm fire.

Toms River Fire Police waved traffic through this stretch of Route 9, between Cox Cro and Riverwood road, on the northbound side.

Once the fire was under control, units began cleaning up and were released from the scene, according to fire officials.

There were no injuries reported at the fire scene, which billowed thick black smoke into the afternoon sky.

John Novac of the township's Bureau of Fire Prevention was assigned to investigate the fire along with Toms River Police.
