Two Accidents Near Major Intersections Cause Bottleneck Traffic Delays

No injuries in separate accidents at Fischer Boulevard and Route 166

Two separate motor vehicle accidents, with no injuries reported, wreaked havoc in the township trafficwise between 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. today.

The first accident occurred at 11 a.m. when a vehicle took down two poles at Fischer Boulevard and Lisbon Avenue. This accident closed Fischer Boulevard for one hour and also affected traffic lights at the intersection of Fischer Bloulevard and Route 37.

Alfonso Domingo, 23, of Warren Street, Toms River, was driving a 2010 Toyota north on Fischer Boulevard preparing to turn left into a shopping center.

A vehicle driving southbound stopped to allow Domingo to make his turn when a 2002 Chevy operated by Osmany Valdes, 33, of 12th Street, Manchester Township, driving southbound on Fischer went around the stopped vehicles and drove on the shoulder when the collision occurred, according to Toms River Police Chief Michael Mastronardy.

After the crash, the Chevy went up a curb striking a utility pole, which brought utility wires down, according to Mastronardy. The accident caused the disruption of electrical service in the area for an hour and a half.

Traffic Safety Corporeal Sean McHugh is investigating the accident.

The second accident occurred at 12:30 p.m. when a dump truck leaving the Dover Mall construction site made contact with utility wires. The accident necessitated closing Route 166 between Route 37 and Old Freehold Road, Mastronardy said.

Members of the New Jersey State Department of Transportation Emergency Response Team assisted in coordinating the traffic detour throughout the afternoon.

The auxiliary police also assisted in traffic control with these accidents.

Up to 2000 Toms River customers were without power, according to a Jersey Central Power and Light Co. spokesman.
