Two Men Flee Armed Robbery of Route 37 Gas Station, Cash Stolen

Men in ski masks with a handgun threaten employee as he opens Route 37 West Shell station

Two men in ski masks, one armed with a handgun, threatened an employee of a gas station and took the Route 37 West location's cash before fleeing on foot as the business opened Tuesday morning, police said.

Toms River Police Captain Steven Henry said the 5:15 a.m. armed robbery of the Shell Gas Station, 1095 Route 37 West, was just as an employee arrived to open for the day.

Two men — both wearing hooded sweatshirts, ski masks and gloves — accosted the victim and demanded cash, Henry said. One of the two men brandished a handgun.

An undetermined amount of cash was stolen from the gas station, Henry said. The two men then fled on foot from the business, on the corner of Route 37 and Bananier. Police are still searching in the open investigation. No injuries were reported.

Toms River Officer D.J. Unger and Detective Roger Hull are investigating.  The Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Criminalistics Unit is also assisting.  Anyone with any information regarding this incident is asked to contact Det. Hull at 732-349-0150 x1291.

The same location was robbed by a man with a knife about a year ago. In the early November incident, which police said at the time was related to a Holiday City gas station robbery, a man demanded money from an attendant in the early evening.

"Why is there no article about how the station is robbing customers? $4.05??? Really???" - MrSaturdayNightSpecial. Really. It's NOT the station, MrSaturdayNightSpecial, it's the Shell Oil Company that's doing the stealing. The gas station attendant is probably making about the minimum wage. As singer, Sinead O'Connor, once said, on "Saturday Night, Live," "Fight the REAL enemy." Yes. Shell Oil Company. Big Oil.

The people working there are not the ones determining the price. That is determined by a higher power and is not relevant to the scope of this article. I only hope one day your loved one does not have to experience this sort of crime and someone posts ignorant comments in regards to it as you just did to my father who was the one attacked.

Toms River is busy these days with all these robberies and beatings. Its not a wonder that people are bringing guns to place behind the counter these days. The Wild west is back.
