Two young men survived a rough surf, water rescue in Seaside Heights Sunday afternoon with no injuries, said Seaside Heights Police Detective Steven Korman.
Police Officer Everett Bajada responded to a call at 3:37 p.m. from the Hamilton Avenue beach of two swimmers in distress.
Bajada entered the water first, followed by the water rescue team. A jet ski responded with a sled attached and a rescue diver on the sled. Rescue divers rode out on a 16-foot inflatable boat, which also brought Bajada to shore.
In the meantime a surfer had one of the young men hang onto his surfboard, said Korman. The surfer went back to surfing after the rescue so police were unable to identify him.
Rescued were an 18-year-old male from Basking Ridge and a 21-year-old male from Far Hills, NJ.
Both were checked out by first aid units at the scene and were found to have no injuries, said Korman.
Assisting in the rescue were the Seaside Heights Water Rescue Team and the Tri-Boro First Aid Squad.
Lifeguards were not on duty and the red flags, an indication of rough surf, were up, said Korman.
