A head-on collision Friday sent three to the hospital after 6 p.m., when two vehicles collided at Garfield Avenue near Route 37, said.
A Toyota SUV driven by Douglas Howard, 29, of Toms River, was headed north on Garfield Avenue toward Route 37, when a 1996 Honda headed south crossed the center line and entered northbound traffic.
The vehicles collided head on, said Toms River Police Chief Michael Mastronardy.
Howard and his mother, Ann Marie Howard, 63, of Toms River, were trapped inside and East Dover Fire Company extricated them. Toms River Police EMS transported Douglas to Jersey Shore University Hospital, and East Dover First Aid Squad transported Ann Marie to Community Medical Center, police said.
The driver of the Honda — Brandon Levitt, 20, of Toms River — was not injured but a passenger in his vehicle was transported to Community Medical Center for a facial injury, Mastronardy said.
Traffic Safety Corporeal Gary Flynn and Sergeant Richard Ross are investigating.
