UPDATE: Whitty Road Reopened Following Accident

Vehicle struck pole, police say

A stretch of Whitty Road in Toms River has reopened following an accident Tuesday morning.

Toms River police responded to a one vehicle crash in which a vehicle was being driven East on Whitty Road when it lost control and crossed over the center yellow line, said police spokesman Ralph Stocco.

The vehicle then struck a utility pole, snapping it in half, Stocco said. Wires and the telephone pole were down cross the roadway, forcing it to be closed between Old Freehold Road and North Bay Avenue.
