Wind Chill -15 Degrees With Foot-High Snow Drifts in Toms River Area

Bitter cold and blowing snow shuttered schools and government Wednesday, as extreme weather continued overnight.

The last official measurement from the National Weather Service after midnight put the Toms River area under 10 inches of snow, with snow drifts reaching above a foot.

State offices and local school districts announced they were closed for the day. Police are urging residents to stay home and stay safe. Keep vehicles and property off streets so plows are not impeded, and if possible clear a path to fire hydrants with shoveling.

This live traffic map shows current road conditions on local major roads.

Toms River court sessions have been canceled. Officials also ask that people not park in the street; this will help make our snow plowing operations more efficient.

In addition, residents are asked to please clear snow from neighborhood fire hydrants and remember to shovel around storm drains so that the drains don’t clog up.
