Sandy Charity Groups to be Honored at Wednesday Township Council Meeting

Council will meet at 5 p.m. in Town Hall

Members of Toms River's Township Council on Wednesday evening will recognize two groups that have been helping locals impacted by Hurricane Sandy.

The Door 21 Foundation and Jersey Shore Gift Givers will be honored when the governing body meets for a regular meeting at 5 p.m. in Town Hall. 

Door 21 opened on Oct. 30 and has received "thousands of donations from near and far. We are now on a mission to ensure it gets into the right hands," reads the description on the organization's Facebook page

Jersey Shore Gift Givers has been working to help deliver Christmas presents to children whose families "are struggling to get back on their feet" following Sandy, according to the organization's Website

Other Sandy items are on the agenda, including a reduction of the Special Emergency appropriation to cover storm expenses and a resolution authorizing the advertising of bids to replace trash and recycling receptacles lost or damaged during the storm.
