Council to Decide Toms River Golf Ordinance

Tonight's Toms River Council meeting is 6 p.m. in town hall

A revamped ordinance that amends rules at Toms River's municipal golf course is among the business at tonight's meeting.

and re-introduced after residents who use spoke out against the measure at a previous town council meeting.

The original ordinance would have eliminated the unlimited permit, forcing those who had that permit to instead pay a la carte.

However the ordinance to be decided tonight (document available here) sets an unlimited permit after paying greens fees.

There are eight different permits depending on your age, residency, and whether you would play anytime or just on the weekdays:

  • $1,995 for residents
  • $1,395 for residents over 62 years old;
  • $3,990 for nonresidents
  • $2,790 for nonresidents over 62 years old
  • $1,400 for residents, unlimited golf except for weekends and holidays
  • $1,145 for residents over 62 years old, unlimited golf except for weekends and holidays.
  • $2,800 for nonresidents, unlimited golf except for weekends and holidays
  • $2,290 for nonresidents over 62 years old, unlimited golf except for weekends and holidays.

Also on tonight's agenda are spending issues, such as the purchase of three pavilions for Winding River North, Winding River South, and Bayside Park at a cost not to exceed $129,027.88. The township is also looking to retrofit three garbage trucks with snow plow equipment, at a cost of $133,566.

In addition to the mayor and council member's comments and reports, the public will have a chance to comment on the ordinances up for vote.
