County Schedules More Hazardous Waste Collection Dates

Hurricane Sandy's impact has created a need for more dates, freeholder says

Ocean County residents who have paint cans, cleaners or other products that need careful disposal will have the opportunity to dispose of those products in the coming days.

"In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy and with so many homes having suffered water damage resulting in houses being emptied out in order to begin repairs, there is a need for these additional collection days," said Freeholder James F. Lacey, liaison to the county Department of Solid Waste management.

Registration and proof of residency are required to drop off items. Register by calling the following numbers for the dropoff sites:

The dates and sites:

  • Dec. 8: Toms River Recycling Center, 1672 Church Road, Toms River, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Dec. 13: Little Egg Harbor Public Works Yard, 1363 Route 539, Little Egg Harbor, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Dec. 14: Lacey Township Recycling Center, 820 Municipal Lane, Lacey, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Dec. 15: Ocean County Southern Recycling Complex, 379 Haywood Road, Stafford, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Dec. 15: Brick Township High School, 346 Chambersbridge Road, Brick, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Materials accepted at the sites include paints/thinners; solvents; pool chemicals; pesticides and herbicides; aerosol cans; auto products; toilet and drain cleaners; polishes; oven cleaners; rug and upholstery cleaners; bleaches, and waste oil and gasoline. All but the waste oil and gasoline must be in their original containers.
