Gov. Chris Christie said the concept of Family Success Centers, a "one-stop" source of help for families before crisis hits, is reaching more families thanks to increased funding.
In Jersey City this week, Christie said the use of the centers has increased dramatically. From his first year in office to 2011, the number of families using the centers statewide increased from 37,000 to 61,000.
The services are free. Among the aims of the centers are child abuse prevention, information and referral services, referrals to local health care services, parent education and life skills training.
The centers' staff also works with families to create "success plans," working to create goals and strive for family stability, Christie said.
Though there are many centers statewide, some with multiple facilities in one town, Ocean County's one "Family Success Center is in Lakewood:
LCSC Family Success Center
415 Carey Street
Lakewood, NJ 08701
732-901-6001
